According to random house, it works for things as well:
intestate
–adjective 1. (of a person) not having made a will: to die intestate.
2. (of things) not disposed of by will: Her property remains intestate.

American Heritage Dictionary-
Not disposed of by a legal will: intestate lands.
Princeton Wordnet-
having made no legally valid will before death or not disposed of by a legal will; "he died intestate"; "intestate property"
Meriam Webster Dictionary of Law-
2 : not disposed of by a valid will <intestate property> intestate estate>; specifically : transmitted according to statutory rules governing intestate succession

Or simply the more wordy and less legalese version, (I like this as it can be understood by anyone - especially a foreigner, if there is one involved in this case)
"the flat is/was part of an estate with no will."
