Note: Dichtheitsprüfung - leak test !!
Note from asker:
For what it's worth: I have noticed that German native translators adopt a somewhat 'negative' rather than 'positive' style. Why use leaktightness when you can use seal tightness ? And what's up with "loss of leakproofness? Doesn't that mean leakage?
Peer comment(s):

agree Rob Edwards : or leaktightness

Dankee, Rod. "Leaktightness" ist vielleicht noch besser.

seal tightness

... presumably, though it might help to have more context (e.g. what kind of pump?).
Note from asker:
That's the first word that came to mind. The pump in question is a backup pump (gap pump / Spaltpumpe) for a sleeve bearing in the event of failure of the oil supply pump.
Thanks a bunch. I think the generic 'tightness' is better since seal tightness refers to the effectiveness of the 'seal', then there is water tightness, air tightness etc.
Peer comment(s):

agree KARIN ISBELL : Ich think, just 'tightness' would do

agree Edith Kelly : just tightness

agree Inge Meinzer : with tightness

I consider this too wordy.
