[Arachnoid cyst complicated by intracystic hemorrhage and spontaneous subdural hematoma: magnetic resonance findings]
(Quiste aracnoideo complicado con hemorragia intraquística y hematoma subdural espontneo: hallazgos en resonancia magnética.)
Full Abstract
Arachnoid cysts are collections of cerebrospinal fluid within the arachnoid membrane. They are benign lesions and most are congenital. They are usually asymptomatic; however, they can bleed and become symptomatic. Although arachnoid cyst associated to intracystic hemorrhage and spontaneous subdural hematoma is an uncommon complication, it is a well-known indication for emergency neurosurgery. We present the findings in a ten-year-old boy diagnosed with arachnoid cyst complicated by intracystic hemorrhage and spontaneous subdural hematoma diagnosed by magnetic resonance.

Emma: based on your last posting, it appears that some bleeding was present. Would it be that it is becoming pronounced? more evident?

, ie the bleeding .. or the bleeding was developing but only became more pronounced and required surgery after 2 years!!!!!! the word cronico is what throws you!!
Emma: I would suggest that you consult your client pointing out that there may be? an inconsistency in the text. What appears to be throwing us all(?) is the word 'crónico'.

In fact I have not assumed anything. I have in fact recommended that the asker check her client regarding the two statements which are of concern.

Note from asker:
I'm still not sure. Elsewhere in the case report it reads, "un paciente con SUNCT en cuya RM apareció un sangrado crónico en un quiste de la bolsa de Rathke" which seems to indicate that the hemorrhage is not in the process of developing, but has been there for some time. What do you think about that? |
No, I wasn't able to ask my client. Thanks to everyone for their opinions on this one. |

Raquel Dominguez
: "Developing into a clot" or "clotting hematoma "would be more precise, I think, but I cannot find at the moment find a suitable quotation.

Rdom's comments here have no bearing on the issue. The question is whether you agree or disagree with my proposed answer. I made no assumptions-quite the contrary. This is NOT place to comment! Then use Commentary Box or Discuss.

Discussion
"un paciente con SUNCT en cuya RM apareció un sangrado crónico en un quiste de la bolsa de Rathke"
which is incompatible with a hemorrhage that is developing/forming/at an initial stage, especially as the surgery was undertaken about 2 years after the MR.
So could it mean something completely different from all your very helpful, but similar, answers?
