Hi
Fashions in late 19th-century France:
"Une joaillerie délicate rajoute un surcroît d'ampleur aux robes à crinoline."
Is anyone feeling inspired?
Many thanks in advance.

Comment: "Thanks Emiledgar and everyone for your ideas. Although this is literally about adding fullness to the gown, as the text is "to the glory of jewellery" opulence fits well and covers the idea of fullness and extravagance. Thanks again!"

adds a sense of magnitude
Hard to be sure about these things without a picture, but perhaps something like:
"Delicate/intricate/exquisite jewel-works adds a sense of magnitude to crinoline dresses".
Hobbies Equipment
If you could embroider, you might add magnitude to your work with just a few easy methods. Here's how:Use variant thread masses.

: I don''t think that jewels add volume; this is about added richness, opulence.

an overabundance of fullness
As this is a crinoline, the poor woman is already nearly spherical!

additional richness / additional elegance
I agree with emiledgar - this is more about adding richness to enhance the crinoline, rather than piling on more volume. (Ghastly thought!)
Discussion
However my word for word reading of this is that the delicate jewellery adds additional fullness to the crinoline dresses.
Is "extravagance" a useful word anywhere in this context?
