Nothin's noo unner de sun! And I thought it was the original saying!
Well, at least I had an (unexpected) decency of not attributing it to meself!
But no, Eric, I disagree with your codicile: the pigs come to the unifersity already formed and launched – primarily by their families; and, paradoxically, it is exactly the family that's nowadays is somehow absolved from all onuses of forming humans rather than swine. Universities just launch them, well, most of them, into some taxi-driving self-commiseration. Serves them right, too!

Father Joe Gillespie, O.P. "When I was studying philosophy, I had a rather cynical professor who was fond of saying, “Teaching philosophy was like throwing false pearls before real swine!"
By throwing false pearls they launch real pigs...
Michael Korovkin Jul 27, 2009:
a propos, Several years ago, at the social sciences conference in Rome, I asked the Harvard Dean of Arts – how was teaching social sciences at Harvard "nowadays"; and he issued forth an absolutely brilliant aphorism: "How? Lake everywhere else: WE ARE THROWING FALSE PEARLS TO REAL PIGS" I still love it!

thanks, Lyonka. To paraphrase Hemmingway, they'll deep you into it one way or another, no matter what you do!
agree Rachel Douglas : And there's nothing wrong with "slop" in the singular. Maybe do the end part of the sentnece not in the passive, but with "they" (the unnamed swine): "When casting those pearls, don't forget the slop, otherwise they'll come asking for it."

Do not cast pearls before swine

otherwise they will remind you about bran
Peer comment(s):
