English term

close micing

English to Spanish Other Music
This comes from the glossary of terms in a text on modern audio recording techniques used in music recording studios.

CONTEXT: "'Micing' is the art of positioning microphones in the studio to capture the sounds produced by instruments, people, and other sources of sound. "Ambient micing" or "room micing" refer to placing microphones at a relatively large distance from the individual instruments (several feet away), in order to capture the general sound of an instrument, group of instruments, or entire band, in as natural a manner as possible. ***"Close micing"*** refers to placing microphones extremely close to the actual individual sources of the sounds of a single instrument, such as placing individual microphones directly above each piece of a drum kit, just an inch or so away from each drum head, in order to maximize capturing the sound from that specific piece, while minimizing bleed from other pieces and other instruments in the room.".

Discussion

Jim Tucker (X) Sep 19, 2009:
actually the google count is "close micing" 5,640
"close miking" 23,400

But even independently of google, I'll go out on a limb: use "miking" unless you have rats in the studio and just don't want to scare people.
The right term is "miking" I manage my own interpretation and audio equipment, and have seen the term "miking" in American and British English texts. If you call the "microphone" a "mike", then the verb which describes the placing of the "mike" has to be "to mike", and the present progressive needs to be "miking".
Stuart Allsop (asker) Sep 19, 2009:
Yeah, the spelling is strange, but it seems to depend on the country. I'm not quite sure which is "more correct" (if there even is such a thing any more in English!), but Google produces 53,000 hits for "close micing" and only 24,000 for "close miking". Hard to say... :)
Margaret Schroeder Sep 19, 2009:
Odd spelling Very odd spelling in your source text; it looks like a word having to do with mice! The usual spelling is “miking,” e.g. <a href="http://dictionary.babylon.com/Close_miking">http://d... <a href="http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/122106/close-mikin...

microfoneo cercano

"Microfoneo cercano" no me parece un término feliz ni muy correcto que digamos, pero es el que parece haber consagrado el uso: en Google hay 18,900 referencias a "microfoneo", y 214 a "microfoneo cercano". Haría falta un término mejor, pero no he sabido que haya ninguno.

En el mundillo de los técnicos de audio, la ortografía correcta es "miking".

Altavoz de Acción
This simulates speaker cone characteristics at different levels. Esto simula las características cono del altavoz en diferentes niveles. With a moderately driven guitar box (Speaker Action from 0%-35%), speakers ideally reproduce the signal clearly without too many side effects. Con una caja de guitarra moderadamente impulsadas (Presidente de Acción de 0% -35%), los oradores ideal reproducir la señal con claridad, sin demasiados efectos secundarios. As levels increase, overtones are added by the overdriven speaker, producing its characteristic "rasping" distortion effect. Como los niveles de aumento, se añaden matices por el altavoz distorsionado, produciendo su característico "áspero" efecto de distorsión. Speaker Action allows for the simulation of this effect. Altavoz de acción permite la simulación de este efecto. Speaker Action is, as with Miking Level and Output Gain, a level control. Altavoz de acción es, como con microfonía de nivel y ganancia de salida, un control de nivel. Turning it to the left allows only low levels to pass, just as with a cabinet driven at low levels. En cuanto a la izquierda permite que sólo los bajos niveles que pasar, al igual que con un gabinete conducido a niveles bajos. If a small Speaker Action is wanted, it must be compensated for with a comparable increase in Miking Level - in principle the same as you would need to do in working with a cabinet. Si se desea una pequeña acción de altavoces, debe ser compensada con un aumento comparable en microfonía Nivel -, en principio, lo mismo que tú tendrías que hacer para trabajar con un gabinete.

close-miking

Close-miking (with hyphen!) is a very common term in recording circles.
Here are a couple of examples from Sound on Sound, one of the world's leading recording mags:

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb08/articles/qa0208_5.htm

This one contains several examples of "close-miking" and "close-miked":

Well, nice to see you finally corrected the language pair, with not a word about your mistake.
Note from asker:
Yes, but the question is about the SPANISH translation of the term.
