Because fruit is really good for you.
IMO, definitely not a typo: reading through examples from a Google search, it seems to be synonymous with "muy bien",
eg.
... que estés bien coto ...
... me cae bien coto ...
... que todo te salga bien coto ...
... me llevo bien coto el mundo ...

Yes, "cool" definitely suits the register. I thought of it but couldn´t manage to tie it in with the "good for you" part of the sentence, from "viene bien". Good luck with the Mexican connection! :)
