Dutch term

messlede

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering Mowers, Landscaping
A few excerpts of relevant text:

It's used in a gazillion other spots... I just don't know what it is.

Discussion

Bryan Crumpler (asker) Mar 5, 2010:
100 kudoz to Sindy. Great observation, Sindy! I pulled that 1st sentence randomly from Google after typing in "messlede". The 2nd two sentences, however, were directly from my current text on lawn edgers. A more specific image of the apparatus that put it all into context, now that I know what it is, would be one of these:

http://www.northerntool.com/images/product/images/180251_lg.... (blade carrier, blade carriage)
http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/4945717/claims.html (cutter carriage)

As for the brand, I wasn't so sure I was able to disclose it given the nature of the contract, but I wasn't able to find an image of the same thing in Dutch. It's obviously none of the objects shown in anyone's references.
Bryan Crumpler (asker) Feb 28, 2010:
slede "messlede" is a specific part name, one that has nothing to do with knives and nothing to do with sleighs, sleds, carriages, meat cutters, sliding whatevers etc. We're dealing with a lawn edger. "mes" here refers to the blade, not a "knife". mowers and lawn edgers don't have "knives". I gather it has to do with the blade assembly the mountings etc., but I don't know what the specific term is because I simply don't know what the equivalent part is.
Barend van Zadelhoff Feb 27, 2010:
slede what is your problem, Bryan?
Is it that you just don't understand the "word" or can't you find a suitable translation? Or both? :-)
katerina turevich Feb 27, 2010:
Actually, one would have to know what kind of lawnmower (?) you are dealing with. can be any one of many parts: KNIFE MEANS most likely, as one word identifying the entire blade construction.

knife carriage

I think "slede" must be translated here as "carriage". Compare the contexts and pictures below.
Example sentence:

Afneembare slede - Inklapbare slede - Gekantelde slede

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks folks. I found the answer elsewhere on a patent from the exact same type of machine (see: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/3734196.pdf) 100 Kudoz to Sindy Cremer for the best observation ever... "

Voor elke handeling aan mes/wegwerpmesje en preparaat en voor elke preparaatwissel en in werkpauzes moet de messlede vergrendeld en de snijkant met de vingerbeschermer afgedekt worden.

Prior to any manipulation of the knife or specimen, or each change of specimen, and during breaks, always cover the cutting
edge of the blade/knife with the knife guard!

The knife sledge is locked in place using the locking knob (23) that
engages in the notch points on the bar (24), thus holding the knife sledge securely.

There is picture of the knife sledge as well
