Italian term

l'altro da sé

Italian to English Social Sciences Psychology psychology
Il corpo malato è vissuto con grande ambivalenza: da una parte, e l'altro da sé minaccioso, persecutorio, nemico. (tutta la frase mi suona strana) grazie 1000 :)

the other

I don't think you need to translate "da sé". I'm assuming it's "è l'altro", not "e l'altro".

the other from self

it's a psychoanalysis term. and philgoddard is right, it is in fact "è l'altro", non "e l'altro".the sentence would then be something along the lines of: "on the one hand, it is the other from self, threatening, etc"

the other self

there seems to be a comparison here between ambivalence on the one hand and the (other self) threatening, persecutory enemy, in which case, è would not make too much sense: either way the punctuation is very strange and you're right, it's a very strange sentence.
