Nolle prosequi -- waiver of right of action
In the U.S., this concept is commmonly referred to as a legal matter being "nolle pross'd." "Nolle prosequi" is a declaration made by a prosecutor in a criminal case or by a plaintiff in a civil matter either before or during trial. It means that the case against the defendant / respondent is being dropped. In a criminal matter, "nolle prossing" the case is not a guarantee that the person will not be reindicted.
Example sentence:
La rinuncia agli atti del giudizio è un istituto processuale necessario per l'abbandono della causa una volta instaurata con la domanda dell'attore.
