thanks for your comment and I respect your opinion, but in my experience this is the expression we use in the UK in very much the same way that L'air du temps is used in France.

: there is a strong pejorative connotation in "l'air du temps". It's a passing collective feeling, like a light vapor. Unlike "zeitgeist" which means the "spirit", the "mind" of a whole epoch.

except that "zeitgeist" is very frequently used in English these days in a very similar way to "l'air du temps", particularly in journalism.

agree with polyglot about 'contemporaneity', the 'here & now'. The sentence is missing something - it does not say WHAT these art forms convey so accurately. You could perhaps get round it by saying that they 'depict/reflect more than a contemporary feel'
