Norwegian term

Når det innføres en egenskap vedlegg med en link til edok

Norwegian to English Other IT (Information Technology)
In this case I wonder what the term "egenskap vedlegg" means. "Appendix characteristic" just doen't seem correct.

Discussion

Andrew Alix (asker) Jul 27, 2010:
I figured that this would be the answer. I just hoped that someone had encountered this before. I had thought to use properties, but even that doesn't sound right.
Kjersti Farrier Jul 27, 2010:
Jeg er enig med Per om at man uansett bør sjekke med kilden, siden det ikke er en særlig klar mening i setningen.

Sorry if you wanted the answer etc all in English, I forgot to notice that you'd written it all in English...
Per Bergvall Jul 27, 2010:
You're asking the wrong people. This can only be answered by the people who wrote it, or gave you the assignment for translation. It is meaningless, and thus not a terminology issue. Egenskap is also a word for property. Imagine this, if you like, as a poor machine translation from another language, and see where it gets you - but the only sure way is to go back to the source.

When the "Attachment with a link to an electronic document" property is introduced

It sounds to me like it's missing quotation marks and is probably a translation from another language. While I used "property" in this case, given the ambiguity, this could very well be a check box or other GUI option.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks: This seems to be the closest explanation, although I think the customer really meant "appendix", so I used that."

forklaringsboks

Jeg mener det er snakk om den beskrivelsen som dukker opp når man fører musetasten over en kobling. På engelsk heter det "legend"
Example sentence:

Navnet på serien er plassert i celle F2. Dette navnet vil eventuelt vises i forklaringsboksen (Legend).

hyperlink

This is my guess.

These two words have a few choices for translation.
vedlegg could be an attachment/associated thing... and an appendix in some contexts, but doesn't seem like that here. In emails I see vedlegg, in English I say attachment.
egenskab is characteristic/property/descriptor/nature/quality etc.

When a hyperlink has been set up with a link to edoc

That is what I think they mean, but I'm not certain. I agree it's a bit of a funny sentance.
Note from asker:
I should have inlcuded the rest of the sentence, since this property required the creation of a hyperlink in several other places. It was a good answer though, and I would have used it if the hyperlink wasn't mentioned in the next sentence of the document.
