French term

TLP

Non-PRO French to English Marketing Marketing / Market Research distribution of virtual services
Les services dématérialisés relatifs à la téléphonie mobile sont aujourd’hui distribués auprès de 4 canaux de distribution (Banques, Grande distribution, TLP et les magasins de téléphonie).

Sorry, waiting to kick myself....
The obvious "missing" distribution channel is simply downloading virtual services/products from the internet...

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (2): Neil Coffey, Aude Sylvain

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Answer In fact Bourth was closest - Tabacs, Librairies, Presse.

Please do let us know what you find out :)
Mark Nathan (asker) Aug 1, 2010:
It might be their own abbreviation for Téléchargement payant. I think I will offer that (Pay-per-download = PPD) and query it.
Emma Paulay Aug 1, 2010:
Long Shot... Could it be a misprint/misreading for TIP, i.e. téléphonie IP (internet protocol)???

Bourth (X) Aug 1, 2010:
Just an idea Mobile phones are indeed distributed by banks (my bank, Crédit Mutuel, does NRJ (radio station) phones), by super/hypermarkets (Carrefour has its own mobile phone system), and specialized phone stores.

So we have radio stations (NRJ) and TV channels (M6), to name a few, providing mobile phone services.
T might refer to Télévision, or P to Presse if these media are considered to fall into that category. However I can't come up with a match for L.
Travelin Ann Aug 1, 2010:
@Mark Could you give us a tad more context? The sentence before and after, if they are related? I'm wondering if TLP could be TéLéPhonie?
Mark Nathan (asker) Jul 31, 2010:
Hi Hazel Thanks, I found that too, but again I do not really see how a local television station can be a distribution channel for virtual services. These services are things like recharging the credit on your mobile phone, downloading a screen image/video/ring tone etc.
Mark Nathan (asker) Jul 31, 2010:
Hi Rachel Thanks for the research, yes it is France, but your ref does not really seem to be a distribution channel...
Rachel Fell Jul 31, 2010:
Hi Mark not my field but just looking. Is this about France? And could it poss. be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transmission_level_point ?

Proposed translations

3 hrs

Local television TLP (Local TV de Provence)

Not sure, hence low confidence level.

However, TLP is translated on the website below as follows:

La tl vision locale TLP (Tl Locale Provence) est passée avec succès de la distribution de l'analogique vers la diffusion en numérique

Local television TLP (Local TV de Provence) has successfully made the transition from analogue to digital.
