Japanese term
過不足を生じさせる
Japanese to English
Bus/Financial
Insurance
Hi, I'm translating descriptions of possible frauds or infractions committed by insurance solicitors (I have asked another question about this today; I'm definitely having a hard time with this text...)
I am now at a passage very similar to the following (you will find a few google hits for roughly the same sentence) describing an act causing losses:
保険業に係る現金、手形、小切手又は有価証券その他有価物の1件当たり100万円以上の紛失(盗難に遭うこと及び過不足を生じさせることを含む。)
What do you think 過不足を生じさせる means here?? I believe that normally 過不足 would translate as surplus/deficit?
Thank you in advance,
Luca

Note from asker:
Thank you very much. I have used your suggestion as I believe it was the most appropriate in the context, but I am not 100% sure. I apologize for the delay. |

to cause a serious/extreme insufficiency
In this case, 過 (excessive/extreme) modifies 不足 (lack/insufficiency). 生じさせる is the causative form of 生じる (to arise or occur), this to cause/create/bring about ar all valid translations, depending on the context.
Note from asker:
Thank you. That is an interesting point, but I am not sure that it is correct as I have not been able to find any sources to validate it. |
+1
2 hrs
cause excess and deficiency
過不足=過多及び不足
Note from asker:
Thank you very much and I apologize for the delay. I agree with your suggestion, yet I was unsure whether it fit the specific context of my translation, so I chose to use "discrepancy" instead. |

: Hi. I believe the choice of the main words are correct, however it should be cause an excess "or" deficiency as opposed to "and."
