about their own perception (of the situation)

Just a guess here, as the string seems to be about someone second-guessing their interpretation/understanding/view of whatever situation under discussion.

from their own view point

This is difficult since it doesn't exactly translated directly. I think they mean that the conditions they have received (at least from their viewpoint), make them feel insecure.

if they have the right understanding, if their own way of seeing it is right

Engelsk: ...have made them unsure if they have the right understanding.

Eksempel: These are in stock and available at any time via the website or by phone order if I have the right understanding.

"...unsure if they've got it right".

Eksempel: Sometimes ages later they'll come up and say "Have you lost weight?" like they're really unsure if they've got it right.

I så fall kan "...usikre og utrygge på egen oppfatning" oversettes til "...insecure and unsure if their own way of seeing it is right".

about their own conviction

This depends on the context, obviously, but if the person who was forced to re-think and re-evaluate had a strong sense that she/he was right, and new information changed that, it might be a case of doubting your own conviction.
