Right before Ike’s eye hits, Reed and the rest of the island will experience the deadliest part of the hurricane: the storm surge. During the surge, winds will push the ocean towards the shore, forcing the water level to rise upwards of 25 feet, swallowing everything in sight. On the sea wall, winds scream and rain pours down as the storm surge is about to strike. Reed and his team are determined to take measurements, but it is almost impossible in the melee.
