Hi!
I am stuck with the word "verrou" in the following sentence.
"Il convient donc pour la validation de l’outil de tester ce verrou."
The document is from the IT domain and the part where this sentence appears talks about checking if a specific set of data has been modified. If it has been modified, the tool stops the conversion of this data. How to translate "tester ce verrou' in this context?
Thanks for help!

(test this) integrity check / authentication code mechanism / digital seal
Any of these are fine. You can also use "authenticator" as suggested by another poster, just with the caveat that an "authenticator" can also mean a program/routine that does the checking. (Though of course if that's what's meant...)

test for technical hitches/problems
"Verrou" in IT terms appears to mean a hitch or problem that needs to be overcome or solved... I'm not entirely sure of this but it does seem to be a general concensus in forums online. It has been translated as a technological barrier/lock-in but that is US English
Example sentence:
Il va falloir résoudre un bon nombre de verrous technologiques

: No, in this case it doesn't mean that. (Google "messsage authentication code" for info on what it refers to.)

test this authenticator

Neil Coffey
: Fine in principle, just with the caveat I mention that "authenticator" is ambiguous between the actual code and the routine used to check the code.

test this lock
The verrou in question is a lock. If the data has been modified, it is locked out.

: If could also mean that a lock on the data has been opened. In any case, "test this lock" is agreeable.

: Don't think "lock" is so common in English in this sense.

: Don't say "lock" if it's not the OS locking the file against access.
