Russian term

вычислить кого-то

Russian to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Но его всё-таки вычисляли, избивали и ему в конце концов пришлось завязать с этим делом. (человек мошенничал в карты)

But eventually he got hit on, beaten up and he had to call the quits on that

Discussion

Andrei B Jul 24, 2011:
P.S. The meaning of 'busted' as
- (informal) caught out doing something wrong and therefore in trouble
Collins English Dictionary (2003)
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/busted
- (slang) caught in the act of doing something one shouldn't do
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/busted
seems to be close
However, the key words here, '[the act of] doing something wrong,' add a connotation that is absent in the Russian вычислять, which is just a colloquial synonym for 'identify' (in context)
Moreover, since 'busted' can be interpreted as 'placed under arrest,' the reader may simply misread the phrase

Esample sentence: In myth, Seth is the equal opposite of Osiris’s purity. He was noted for breaking all levels of sexual taboo. He would hunt sacred fish and animals, and destroy sacred trees and groves. He is known as being deceptive, a liar, a thief, even though "he was always found out and punished" by Anubis and Thoth.

NB: "вычисляли, избивали" is in the imperfective aspect, which indicates that the man was REPEATEDLY found out and beaten up, rather than just once...
Note from asker:
It sounds too dry. I'd like to make it more colloquial, to translate it in a more vivid way

Example sentence:

Only one account has been fingered in these cheating allegations, the account of NioNio, primarily a high stakes cash poker player

Oh, what the heck, I'll throw in another one. It does have a certain, er, sexual connotation though that I am not sure you'd want, hence the medium confidence.
