Roger Matthews (asker) Oct 26, 2011:
Dry Grocery / Groceries Thanks for that - I wasn't aware of the terminology - but I have also found UK references in the supermarket retail context, so am convinced! Can I please give points to someone?
freekfluweel Oct 26, 2011:
In Dutch: "droogwaren". Always good to know when visiting the Netherlands ;-)
freekfluweel Oct 26, 2011:
I mean "Trockensorten"... lol
freekfluweel Oct 26, 2011:
"Dry Grocery", wasn't aware this terminology applies to the Eng. lang. as well, not to my sources! Apparently I went beyond the translation...
Nicole Schnell Oct 26, 2011:
Orla is right. TROSO means Trockensorten. The English equivalent is Dry Grocery.
Coffee, flour, sugar, salt, tea bags, etc. Here is a list: http://www.amcor.com/market_solutions/food_retail/dry_grocer...

Food and Beverage >> Dry Grocery >> Pasta and Noodle
Etc.
U.S. retail giant Target will go shopping at Sobeys for the dairy goods, frozen foods and dry grocery products to be sold at Target stores in Canada starting in early 2013....

Should be something like "preserved" / "canned" / "processed" food as opposed to "fresh produce"!

Peer comment(s):

agree Joshua Pepper : "packaged" or "processed" "goods" or "products" sounds good.

disagree Nicole Schnell : Sorry, this is not correct. Also, you can buy dry grocery such as coffee, flour or spices in bulk at most stores.

I originally thought "dry goods", but the link suggests it might be slightly more general than that. For example, drinks are listed under Troso...
Note from asker:
Great, thanks. I didn't come up with any references. I suppose it is just "dry goods". Very helpful, thanks!
Peer comments on this reference comment:

agree Kim Metzger : I don't know the English term for Nudeln,Backwaren, Marmelade, etc. either.

neutral freekfluweel : Sorry guys. "Dry goods" mainly refers to dry goods, as in clothing... Should come up with a different grocery's phenomen,
