Window releases

"The Media & Entertainment industry is undergoing disruption in its drive to digital, with resulting uncertainty of its future configuration …

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

"Disney Reignites DVD Window Release Debate
In the traditional release window model movies are first released in the movie theatres and about four months later on DVD, and about 45 days later on VOD, and then about 18 months later on pay TV."
http://seekingalpha.com/article/188653-disney-reignites-dvd-...

"Many Factors Affect Early Video Window Release
As home video becomes the biggest percentage of a film's total revenue potential, it's clear that studios are moving video release dates up, in general, for all films and, in certain instances, dramatically forward. [...]
One studio, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment (CTHE), seems to have made a conscious decision to release films earlier (see the story on page 8 in this week's edition of VSM). Of the total number of DVDs released within 100 days of their theatrical debuts since the inception of the format, CTHE has about one-third of the titles, and the studio overall has had the shortest theatrical-to-video window average of all the major studios, according to the DVD Release Report."

"Internationally, the Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol will open on approximately 200 IMAX screens beginning on Dec. 14 , with several markets receiving an early window release in IMAX ahead of their wide release"
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=84881

"With online viewership surging, it would seem wiser for studios to put more of their strategic resources into figuring how to better tap into this demand than by potentially harming early window theatrical release with Premium VOD. This would help unlock more films for Netflix and others to stream. [...]

"However, as Disney knows from its experiment last year of accelerating the DVD release of "Alice in Wonderland," which raised the ire of British theater owners, balancing these objectives is no easy feat. Meanwhile, as "Premium Video-on-Demand," an early window release plan for $30-$40 per movie approaches, theater owners' unhappiness will become even more apparent."

"Due to many changes within the industry in the past few years, the "window" kept shrinking. But due to Disney's plan for such an early DVD release, one of the international exhibitors, the fourth largest Dutch firm, announced they would boycott the film if the standard "window" release time was not adhered to"

"As a result of the FCC ruling, Meyer [CEO Warner Bros] said, "we are actively pursuing opportunities for an early window release of our films over cable and satellite systems in advance of DVD and Blu-ray."

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Release_windows

"Earlier window releases" quiere decir "Releases with an earlier window".
