I tried posting before just for the phrase "la premiére venue," and it was suggested that I post the whole phrase. So here it is. Thanks!
Hi all. I need some help with this. Part of it is that I am not used to translating this kind of vague literary-ish style. I'm sure I am missing something obvious but I can't figure out what this author is trying to say. The text is about a city in Switzerland.
Les jardins sont omniprésents quand bien même la ville est comme un îlot construit dans un océan de pâturages et de forêts. Il faut du temps et de la curiosité pour s’imprégner du génie du lieu. L’improbable ne se laisse pas apprivoiser comme la première venue. Point ici de pittoresque médiéval, de rues étroites et sinueuses, pavées, usées des pas des touristes.

In your previous post someone pointed out the connotation of "easy woman" in the term première venue. Somehow that led me to the verb "yield"...

: For a tourist brochure (which I guess this to be), this solution sounds almost negative. If the city doesn't yield its charms, you're unlikely to go back there. A less literal solution would be better IMO.
