French term

teasing en speak antenne

French to English Marketing Advertising / Public Relations Motos
Still on the subject of motorbikes, this is a publcity document for a Two-Wheelers Show.
It is talking about the different publicity campaigns carried out, and one of these is listed as:

Campagne de pub sur les radios locales + teasing en speak antenne

I think "teasing" in French is a teaser campaign. "en speak antenne" completely throws me though...

Discussion

Eleanor P (asker) Apr 25, 2012:
@Tony M I wasn't referring to those terms (e.g. speakerine) in particular, but rather to the amount of franglais terms in general used in the French media. But it is true that many of them go out of fashion quickly!

Jocelyne Cuenin Apr 24, 2012:
Tony M Apr 24, 2012:
Obsolete? Well, i don't know, Eleanor.

Personally, I haven't heard those terms used in the last 15 years I've been in France, I only knew them through my dictionary, which refers to them as 'vielli'.

I don't think you need to put 'on-air' (not 'on-the-air'), since they can't really be anything else; I think the idea is probably that they are made live, as part of the continuity etc. announcements, rather than pre-recorded as a 'proper' advert would be; so may be 'live plugs by announcers' etc.
Tony M Apr 24, 2012:
'plug' I think 'plug' is perfectly acceptable in this sort of context in EN.
philgoddard Apr 24, 2012:
I've suggested "plug" as an answer. I wonder whether
(a) French uses the English word "plug"
(b) There is a "polite" English version of the word.
Eleanor P (asker) Apr 24, 2012:
@ Tony M - are they really obsolete though, even if someone has now invented a proper French term for them? You wouldn't think it to listen to some tv and radio programmes...
Eleanor P (asker) Apr 24, 2012:
So, something like "on-(the)-air teasers by radio presenters"
Jocelyne Cuenin Apr 24, 2012:
Tony M Apr 24, 2012:
As with so much 'franglais' The EN term has been taken and re-used out of context. Thankfully, many of these terms (like 'speaker' and 'speakerine'!) are now obsolete and replaced with 'proper' FR terms.
Eleanor P (asker) Apr 24, 2012:
Aha...merci pour les pistes... I cannot get my head around these "anglicisms"! Someone needs to write a book about them...
Jocelyne Cuenin Apr 24, 2012:
http://www.schoop.fr/lexique.php?lettre=S
Tony M Apr 24, 2012:
I think Phil has it 'teasing' = 'teaser', and I suspect 'speak' is short for 'speaker', i.e. announcer — presumably here simply 'radio announcer'.
philgoddard Apr 24, 2012:
Could it mean plugs by radio and/or TV presenters, as opposed to commercials? Either way, it's a great example of not one, but two incorrect borrowings from English in the same sentence.
