the unexpected with the unhoped-for
Why not? Given the context...

Perhaps, as the verb is 'réunir', you just need the conjunction 'and' instead of 'with'

There, I dared.
Note from asker:
And I will dare use it - to hell with translating with those alliterations! Thanks. |

the unexpected above all expectations

...to extend the boundaries of possibility and enlarge the spectrum of hope
A free translation that might provide some extra options.
The juxtaposition of impossible-inespéré and improbable-inattendu gives me the impression that the artists are pushing the boundaries of what is considered possible, or what can be aspired to / hoped for (a "shortening" of the conceptual distance between the two, as it were).
Of course, might read more like an explanation than a description and come across as pedantic, but nothing ventured...
It's art, so it's OK to be a bit unorthodox ;-)

the unexpected with the unthinkable
never imagining it would happen...but it might..

Tony M
: I think 'inespéré' definitely conveys a positive image: "I could neve have hoped for...", whereas 'unthinkable' very definitely conveys a negative connotation: "It is inthinkable that a nuclear power station should explode"

I disagree...it also means "impossible to imagine/conceive"/ contrary what is plausible or probable..with positive slants depending on context: "that this project would achieve worldwide recognition was unthinkable at the time"..they dared not think it

The unexpected with the unanticipated
This could be one way of expressing this.
Example sentence:
" In both of these experiences elements were combined that were UNEXPECTED and UNANTICIPATED in the various contexts in which they were deployed. For example, peas on a plate are unremarkable whereas one pea offered by a stranger in the street is bizarre.
Note from asker:
Yes, indeed - too late now but worth remembering for next time. |

Perhaps the second part of the sentence could move away slightly from the paired adjectives.
