The last dilation must be carried out with the dilator fitted with the splittable sheath. Position the renal end of the splittable sheath in the calyx under fluoroscopic control and then withdraw the dilator, leaving the sheath in place. To do this, disconnect the dilator from the sheath by unscrewing it.
Note: Prior to catheterization, it is usual practice to check that the valve and balloon of the catheter are
functioning properly by inflating and then deflating the balloon.
