Italian term

profilo

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Architecture
This is a kind of piece (sometimes wooden, sometimes metal), long, like a pole, that is attached by screws and wall plugs to the wall (or floor, or ceiling), and forms a frame. Onto this frame, metal clips are attached, and then wooden planks are inserted into slots in the clips, one after a nother, to form a floor, wall, or ceiling covering (of wood).

examples:

These pieces are repeatedly referred to as "profili", though 'profile' is unknown to me in this context in English (not that I have extensive experience in this field) and it seems that "track" would be more appropriate, or "frame". In fact, in the picture, these pieces are three sided (like the bottom or top piece of a track for a sliding door), whereas in other parts of the manual they seem to be four sided (like a long, square pole).

Is there any standard terminology for this sort of piece?

Thanks,

Peter

In that case I'll put it as an answer. I remember I called the clips that go at the beginning of each row 'starter clips', if that's any help.

I like it. Thank you. Indeed, I agree with your assessment that you can use what terms you like (in this context). I think that with the diagram and photos included in the manual, it should be clear to the installer which piece I am referring to. Thanks for the tip! Great solution.

Peter I translated a website for an extremely similar product recently, and it's one of those areas where you can call the components what you like, within reason. They join together to make the frame, so why not call them frame sections?
