Het gaat waarschijnlijk inderdaad om kwadratisch uitmiddelen zoals freekfluweel zegt, maar ik zou het plaatselijke (of lokale) kwadratische correctie noemen. Plaatselijk of lokaal wil volgens mij zeggen: binnen het scanbestand.
