Judgment or conviction vs. sentence It is possible in the UK to appeal against either the (civ.) judgment > (crim.) conviction or the (crim.) sentence (It. condanna as Carl S. writes), namely a custodial sentence, criminal fine vs. civil penalty or a CSO/Community Service Order.

There seems to be a gulf between the commentators who have studied and have knowledge of EN & IT civil & criminal procedure/ litigation as well as evidence and respondents who don't.

Civil or Criminal?? Someone is obviously going to challenge or appeal a judgment. If it's a civil case, then use decision, ruling, judgment; if it's a criminal case then you can use judgment or verdict. Sentence (as in sentencing) is something else in English - . Tom Thumb's answer would be my choice for a civil case. - Alison

how do you know it is a civil case ? it might just as well be a non civil one. then sentence would be ok..

Has nothing to do in EN law with contempt of court or contumelious delay.

Good idea to give some context, namely if civil or criminal
