I think I would use secret here rather than secure. Secure can mean many things.

I agree with your basic opinion on cryptography. You are right, but in stead of stretching the sentence, it is just enough that the duty-officer "confirms over cryptotelephone" instead of writing "telephone of crypto-means of telecommunications"
