: Secret communications bring to mind secret agent men. There's a world of difference between secret communications and secure communications, and that secret stuff just wouldn't fit here.

I agree with your basic opinion on cryptography. You are right, but in stead of stretching the sentence, it is just enough that the duty-officer "confirms over cryptotelephone" instead of writing "telephone of crypto-means of telecommunications"
