Grade Point Average (GPA)
As a result of grades and grade points most transcripts will provide you with a grade point average. Therefore utilizing the examples above with the grade points of twelve (12) from the first course and nine (9) grade points resulting from the second class equals twenty one (21) total grade points. The sum of twenty one (21) grade points divided by the six (6) credit hours would result in a Grade Point Average (GPA) of three point five (3.5).

Quarter Credits
The quarter credit system was widely used throughout the American post secondary education at one time; however, most institutions have converted to the semester credit hour system. The quarter credit hour system was derived from dividing the academic year into four quarters typically, Fall Quarter, Winter Quarter, Spring Quarter, and Summer Quarter. Each quarter hour normally represented ten (10) clock hours of classroom time or twenty (20) or more clock hours or laboratory time.
