This is a text about a region in Spain's initiative to network city and provincial resources to provide assistance to women who suffer from gender-based violence. So, I'm having trouble with this concept of "contraponer" in this particular context. I'm up for suggestions.
The best I can come up with is: "it is a mistake to pit the assistance given to the victim against the treatment of the male aggressor." However, I'm not entirely sure this captures the essence.
So, like I said, I'm up for suggestions...

Como es lógico, el interés principal de la intervención se ha centrado principalmente en la protección y atención a la víctima de la violencia de género.
Sin embargo, incluso desde la perspectiva de la víctima de violencia, es un error contraponer la ayuda a la misma con el tratamiento al hombre agresor.

No English patterns come quickly to mind that match this Spanish pattern -- except the one you came up with "to pit something against something".
Although mine doesn't mention support for women, since support for women was just mentioned, you might opt for this or some different pattern that implies a comparison.
