Hello to all, I'm working on a standard operating procedure called "MONITOREO AMBIENTAL DE ÁREAS ASÉPTICAS" from a Mexican pharmaceutical institute. The term in question that I want to translate is "carbón," since, despite my best searches, I cannot tell if it is supposed to be "coal," "charcoal," "carbon," etc. Here is the context:

In principle carbon would be carbono and carbón is charcoal or coal, but in any case air monitoring using charcoal used to be standard practice, though it's no longer so widely used. I think it's what they're referring to. Of course charcoal is carbon anyway, but I think the translation here is charcoal.
