German term
ausländische Studierende - Bildungsausländer
German to English
Other
Education / Pedagogy
This is a heading in a table of statistiks. No further context. I've come up with an explanation but no "short and snappy" term. Any ideas?

Foreign students with Abitur equivalent OR foreign certificate of matriculation
Matriculation is the formal process of entering a university, or of becoming eligible to enter by fulfilling certain academic requirements such as a matriculation examination.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matriculation
Many foreign matriculation examinations are recognised in Germany. In this case you can be admitted directly to a course of studies - provided that you have sufficient knowledge of German.

: For instance A-levels from the UK, or anything approved for university entrance qualification by a matriculation board or similar

Comment: "Thanks you for all your help. In the end we opted for "non-German Abitur equivalent". It's slightly ambiguous but does not exclude German-Swiss or Austrian students, in the same way as "foreign" would."

Lancashireman
: Suggests a very narrow view of 'education' with a premature cut-off point. // For an exclusively American readership, perhaps.

seems to work for the asker's purposes, though.// Don't think so. It's also very common in Canada, for instance.

: Although anyone who went to school in another country than Germany may well be foreign-educated, this does not necessarily mean that they have gained a qualification for university entrance equivalent to the German Abitur (e.g. sufficient UK A-levels).

Discussion
Minimum Admission Requirements
For most countries, we consider the same academic preparation as is required for university entrance in that country: successful graduation from an academic secondary school program or equivalent.

This is not foreign-educated.
Although anyone who went to school in another country than Germany may well be foreign-educated, this does not necessarily mean that they have gained a qualification for university entrance equivalent to the German Abitur (e.g. UK A-levels).
inländische Studierende - Bildungsinländer
inländische Studierende - Bildungssausländer
If so, the answers to both could be:
1) Foreign students with German Abitur
2) Foreign students with Abitur equivalent
