Discussion

Helena Chavarria May 19, 2015:
You might find this helpful A committee is a group of people who meet and deliberate according to fixed rules in order to make a decision or produce a document as a group. A commission is a group of people who are entrusted (that is the etymology) by a government to carry out a task. Sometimes the task is a specific one (like ascertaining a particular fact or resolving a particular problem) and sometimes the task is more long-term (like the SEC, that is, Securities and Exchange Commission). A commission is usually distinct from other kinds of agency in two ways: it has no single, permanent administrator, and it has no independent or constitutional authority of its own—it operates under the authority of another part of the government. Of course, a commission can be a committee (like the 9/11 Commission), but very few committees are commissions, and some commissions are not committees.

Coordinator of the Transformation Committee

The Spanish here is redundant, given that "transformación" necessarily would generally imply "modernización" in such a context.

So no need to replicate the redundancy in English, methinks.

And I'd go with "committee" rather than "commission" in this academic context (i.e., academic institutions typically organize "committees" rather than "commissions" in the English-speaking world).

agree Sian Cooper : Although assuming that 'modernisation' is redundant is questionable: you can definitely transform without modernising, particularly in big organisations with committees...

Yes, but I think it requires a fair amount of sophistry to conceive of t. without m., and I would be stunned on the grounds of sheer common sense if that were the intention here. That said, thanks for your agree. 😊

Coordinator of the transformation and modernization commission

I think I would translate it literally, changing the position of 'modernization' and 'transformation'.

You'll find it in the abstract at the end, before the references.

As Patricia has rightly pointed out, it should be 'Coordinator of the Transformation and Modernization Committee'; 'Modernisation' for the UK.

You're right of course. I completely forgot about capitalising the words. Thanks for pointing that out :)
agree lugoben : either are valid. In English shorter syntax form has to add coordinator

I finally decided to put 'Coordinator' at the beginning because I didn't like the sound of '...Commission Coordinator and Director...'. Thank you, lugoben :)
