I'm translating a research paper from Mexican Spanish into British English and am stuck on the recorded dialog of one of the women interviewed for this paper. The entire context is as follows:
“Pues se me hace tosquita mi hija, porque yo digo que ella está así por lo que come, o sea, come a lo mejor por nervios… mi esposo me dice: “tú estás enferma de la mente, porque ella no está gorda”. Bueno a mí me gustaría verla un poco más delgada…. a mí se me hace un poquito rellenita ella, porque yo digo que a lo mejor, ¡yo estoy traumada con las rellenitas!
I'm having difficulty finding a proper replacement for the phrase "se me hace tosquita". Any insight is greatly appreciated! :)

Since the husband doesn't even see it, I don't think it calls for terms like 'chubby' or 'plump', though I admit that those terms are more colloquial.

Sorry, I missed "se" of hacerse and jumped at a wrong conclusion.
To be close to the meaning of tosca it could be - I find my daughter a bit clumsy
