Norwegian term
felles lunsj
Norwegian to English

In a list of instructions to staff: "Alle i driftsselskapet har ansvaret for å organisere felles lunsj på kontoret."
Are we talking about an employer-mandated routine that reduces non-productive time, or is this merely an occasional festive gathering?

I believe this has to do with a daily routine at work which the employer wants to encourage to. I don't think it has anything to do with festivities.

Thanks, Vedis. I'm Leaning toward your suggestion (and my own initial thought), based on these examples: http://tinyurl.com/nzxz46c |

No exact translation or US equivalent. "felles lunsj" or "felleslunsj" is simply lunch that a group would have together to become familiar with each other or simply to interact while taking a break. Food might be brought by each individual either for themselves or to share or, as implied here, employees would arrange jointly for food and share costs.
Example sentence:
Skal vi planlegge felles lunsj med det nye studentene?
Note from asker:
Thanks. We used to have potluck lunches like this at an office where I worked (my first encounter with octopus …) I'll hold off and see what else is proposed. |
