English term

bridges distances

English to French Tech/Engineering Photography/Imaging (& Graphic Arts)
Bridging the gap
Whether in its role as a high-precision reproduction lens for technical applications or as a traditional, moderate tele-lens for portraits with shallow depth of field, the 2/100M lens allows you to delve into both worlds.
It is currently the fastest 100 mm macro lens on the market and closes the gap between long range and breathtaking close-up shots.
This lens bridges distances and allows unique image compositions.

Hello fellow translators, any idea?

Discussion

Tony M Sep 9, 2015:
Macro lenses As the general text seems to be referring to macro lenses, I think there is another possibility that so far no-one seems to have mentioned.

I don't think it's really about a range of focal lengths — that doesn't quite seem to be what they are referring to here, and in any case, modern lenses already offer pretty good focal length coverage.
Nor, I think, is it anything to do specifically with focusing distance: almost all lenses go from ∞ (of course!) down to sometimes quite close distances.
What I think they are referring to here is bridging the gap (that does still exist!) between the minimum focusing distance in 'normal' and the maximum focusing distance in 'macro' — this can be quite irksome at times, where you want to get in just that bit closer in 'normal', and yet not quite close enough to be 'macro'.

disagree Daryo : on its own, at a stretch, it could be that - but the way the whole ST is worded it means that this 100 mm lenses "fill the gap" in a range of lenses of varying focal distances that a pro photographer has to have.

A stretch? The ST is more about macro-/tele-photo than focal distances. I don't understand "distance" here as "focal distance" and the blurb goes beyond a mere add-on between a 50 and a 150.
