Writ of amparo / constitutional remedy proceedings

I'd avoid using "amparo" when possible. If your translation f or allows explanation, then I'd note: "action for constitutional relief under a writ of amparo" or "constitutional action alleging the violation of rights committed by the government or by a court of law" (Javier Becerra)

relief proceedings

As a translation, "relief proceedings" is the term approved by the Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación in its publication "Relevant Decisions of the Mexican Supreme Court" (2006). You'll have to decide for yourself how qualified that court is to render this term in English though.

Anyway, as Helena and Maria have said, most translators leave it as Amparo proceedings or writ of Amparo. Javier Becerra (who IMO is qualified) also gives us "constitutional remedy" and "constitutional relief under a writ of Amparo" which nails it really (and is probably a good term to use the first time it appears in any document where this term would be unfamiliar, i.e., not specifically part of a court case).
Note from asker:
Hi Robert, Thank you very much for your assistance with this term. I selected Seth's term as it included "constitutional" although it was difficult as yours is of course also correct.
Peer comment(s):

agree Adrian MM. (X) : perhaps prefix with constitutional. A reader might think amparo has something to do with electric amperes http://www.proz.com/kudoz/spanish_to_english/law_general/704... AMM previously known as Kirsty MacC

A couple of years ago I translated a lot of Mexican legal documents and I was told not to translate 'amparo'.
