Detente

Spanish to English Medical Medical: Health Care Pre-procedure (Ophthalmology)
It's a checklist filled out by a physician titled "Verificación Final (Detente)" to make sure it's the correct patient, there's informed consent, the site of the procedure has been marked, the patient's in the right position, the equipment's ready etc.

These are in various places in surgical checklists. It's a moment in the series of steps where everyone stops what they're doing in case someone on the team has any issues.

neutral philgoddard : I'm sure you're right, but do you have any references? I haven't found this in the dictionary. Is it anything to do with the French détente?
