English term

Fleets

Non-PRO English to French Tech/Engineering Transport / Transportation / Shipping
Hello,
Normally, it's a "fleets" would be "flottes" (de véhicules), but I'm not sure how to translate "fleets" in the following sentences:

-Gives fleets control over the cost of tire replacement...
-Fleets find that the device pays for itself (a device installed on vehicules)...

Propriétaires des flottes de véhicules? Entreprises opérant des flottes? Any other suggestion?

Thanks a lot!

gérant de parc de véhicules /

the way it's used in the ST "fleet" is personified; as this usage sounds odd in French, simply change it to a real person - the fleet manager.

-Gives fleets control over the cost of tire replacement...
-Fleets find that the device pays for itself (a device installed on vehicules)...
=>
-Gives fleet managers control over the cost of tire replacement...
-Fleet managers find that the device pays for itself (a device installed on vehicules)...

neutral writeaway : Gives fleets control not controls fleets

Can't see which part you think is wrong?
agree Tony M : I agree this is the best way to take it in FR, irrespective of whether Asker ends up choosing 'parc' or 'flotte'. I can't understand Writeaway's quibble either?

I rechecked, and still can't see it. Thanks!
disagree Alain Rondeau : I don't see why there should be a reference to a manager. Please, see my note.

Ex. And with tire costs in the top three expenditures for fleets, [...]
Les dépenses reliées aux pneus représentent la troisième en importance pour un parc de camions, [...] goodyear.ca

Sorry, but I don't see why you refer to «gérant» since when I wrote «parc de véhicules» here it was either «l'entreprise elle-même» or « son propriétaire ou bien la corporation» operating this company as the asker clearly mentioned it. There is no indication that the «manager» is involved here. And personally, MyFairLady I would go for LES DIRIGEANTS DU PARC DE VÉHICULES it is simpler this way.
Example sentence:

Il semblerait qu'il leur soit même difficile d'assurer la maintenance de leur parc...

disagree Daryo : You got it right ON THE WRONG TARGET // the problem here IS NOT whether a "fleet" is "un parc" or "une flotte" the real problem is in the fact that "fleet" was personified, and you can't do that in French - sounds too odd in this ST

Your opinion! I don't see why it couldn't be the owner.
