и так после Нового года лишних полтора килограмма

Russian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
I have another few questions from "Последовательность событий" by Mikhail Shevelyov (http://magazines.russ.ru/znamia/2015/6/4sh.html).

"Картошку пожарить, салат сделать, сыр, карбонад, если ты хочешь, а я не буду, и так после Нового года лишних полтора килограмма образовались."

“Can you fry the potatoes, make the salad, cheese, and pork loin if you want, but I won’t have any—as it is, I seem to have gained an extra one and a half kilograms since New Year’s Day...”

This seems to be the wife talking to the husband during the New Year's celebration, but I'm confused by "после Нового года." Does she mean that she gained the weight during the day? Or perhaps "since last New Year's"?

Fry yourself some potatoes/spuds, make a salat, get cheese and a chop if you want, but count me out: I grew a kilo and a half after (all that eating on) the New Yea day.

Both your translation and the bit suggestions read almost like elizabethan prose and certainly like victorian one, while in Russian the piece is very colloquial.

points are not money, so who cares...
However, I'm still curious why you give my suggestion 3 points rather than 4? Is yours a request for collegial help or an exercise in padagogy, "evaluation" included?

during New Year's celebration

The celebration is extensive and can last a couple of days which inevitably results in a couple of extra pounds around the waist:).
Note from asker:
Thank you, that seems to make the most sense. :)

I've already gained one and a half kilograms after New Year.

I think that the wife is talking about the extra weight she gained during the major Russian holiday- New Year celebration.
