Spanish term

arquitectura humanitaria

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) ONG report
Context is:

Discussion

Robert Carter Feb 9, 2016:
@Eileen I was not suggesting that the text was about architecture, just addressing some points that were made in this discussion and this page in general. You would obviously have more insight as to the context of the question you asked, and my comments have no bearing on your choice of answer, which is clearly a judgment you alone are entitled to make.
Robert Carter Feb 9, 2016:
Hi Christian I looked at the first three references Liz gave in her answer, which relate to the book "Humanitarian Architecture" by Esther Charlesworth, then I looked up the author, and found among other sites that are more academic in nature, this one:
http://harbureau.org
Eileen Brophy (asker) Feb 9, 2016:
It was NOT about architecture, it was about a text "complaint" from a volunteer nurse to Medicos Sin Fronteras, about their "lack of humanity" with some of their volunteers, when working in the medical field abroad.
Just curious How do you know it's from a book about architecture written by an architecture professor? I can't find that information.
Why was the questions posted under "medical"?
Robert Carter Feb 9, 2016:
Humanitarian Architecture What contextualization is needed for Liz's references? Just go and have a look, it relates to the title of a book, by a professor of architecture no less, Esther Charlesworth. You might not like the term, but it exists, as the name of one of her books at least, so it's "in the culture", a "meme" even. I'd even wonder if the Spanish isn't simply a literal translation from the English.

As for non-English speakers "messing up" the language, well! A little history shows they've been "messing it up" since at least, oh I don't know, before the Romans invaded the British Isles. I actually like those foreign touches in the English language, such as entertainment, culture, law, literature, sports, and even, dare I say it, architecture!
Robert Forstag Feb 2, 2016:
"architecture" Along the lines of Christian's comment (and as I implied in the explanation accompanying my own suggestion) I really do not think that there is any intention in the source text to refer to "architecture" in the literal sense, but rather that the term is merely being used figuratively to refer to "humanitarian efforts" in a general sense. Furthermore, I find the mechanical reproduction of web references containing the term "humanitarian architecture" for the purpose of supporting a literal interpretation of the term, without any accompanying contextualization or explanation, rather less than compelling....
the word "architecture" As a "real" architect (the kind that designs buildings) I am interested in your final decision. Not sure what they mean here, being a medical document. Often annoyed by the fact the computer/IT industries have taken over the word "architecture" too.

humanitarian infrastructure

Unless the writer means "arquitectura" in a strictly figurative sense, I think this would get the idea across better than "architecture."
Note from asker:
Yes Stephen I agree, though a lot of links have also been posted to the use of the word "architecture" online. Unfortunately the online use of English is messing up the English language in a lot of ways as a lot of non natives post non English vocab.

Spanish term (edited): ¿Participamos en la reconstrucción de la arquitectura humanitaria?

Are we helping to reconstitute [our] humanitarian endeavors?

The Spanish strikes me as a bit turgid. This seems to have been the intended meaning of the question.

This can of course be tweaked in a variety of ways (e.g., "making efforts" instead of "helping"; "efforts" instead of "endeavors," etc.).
