English term

drive test

English to Spanish Tech/Engineering Telecom(munications) US SPANISH
Dear colleagues,

A drive text, in the context of telecommunications, is some type of field test done to measure the performance of mobile networks. Parameters include overall performance, speed, call performance, etc. As I understand it, rather than using actual end users in real-world situations, drive tests are conducted under simulated situations.
Does anyone know of an "accepted" Spanish translation for this?

The passage below is NOT what I am translating. I am including it just for reference. I added the all caps.

This industry conducted an independent drive test of the Sprint LTE network, supporting both Band 41 (2.5 GHz) and Band 25 (1.9 GHz). The testing took place in early April in the Chicago area where Samsung is the infrastructure supplier. As we have done numerous times in the past we used Accuver's suite of DRIVE TEST tools to capture (XCAL-M) and analyze (XCAP) the network performance information.

Thanks in advance

Discussion

Carmela Gaytán Mar 2, 2016:
Ok. Thanks for clarifying it. In that case, I would propose something like "pruebas de cobertura/desempeño de la red en un vehículo", or "pruebas vehiculares de cobertura/desempeño de la red"
George Rabel (asker) Mar 2, 2016:
Clarification I understand that telecom companies in Spanish-speaking countries might use the English term, but the target audience in this case is the consumer. The telecom company is boasting to their customers that their network got the highest scores in drive tests conducted by independent testing companies.

Great! I'm glad I could help.
Note from asker:
Thank you. Olga also had the same suggestion, and her answer was posted at the same time. I believe "pruebas de campo" works best within the context of my brochure.

disagree Carmela Gaytán : "pruebas de campo" doesn't imply that it is performed in a vehicle

drive test

I worked for more than 10 years on a mobile company in Mexico. At least at that company this test is referred to as "drive test". As far as I know there's not an "accepted" term, but in a telecom company in Mexico, "drive test" would be understood.
