Methyl(triphenylphosphonium)bromide (10.2 g, 28.4 mmol) was suspended in dry THF (30 mL) under nitrogen and the suspension was cooled to 0 °C. n-Butyllithium (17.8 mL, 28.4 mmol) was added drop-wise to the mixture and the resulting solution was stirred at room temperature for 30 min. Ph1-a (5.7 g, 22.8 mmol) was added to the mixture and the reaction allowed to proceed at room temperature for 60min.
