Spanish term

endicado

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Other
Hola!
Proposed translations (English)

Discussion

Helena Chavarria Mar 15, 2016:

Farmers from the Delta region, depends on the construction of dikes to maintain their productive activities. Actually, there is no information about the development of dike construction. We designed a thematic map concerning the evolution of ***dikes construction*** through the period 1985-2005. Using a Geographic information System and remote sensing tools, we measured the dikes surfaces and we characterized the different patterns of flooding affectation along the Lower Delta islands.

Those ambients defined as high lands or ridge of fertile land («albardón») and intermediate high lands or ridge of median fertile land (semi-albardón), protected by a perimetrical dike, moderate well drained and deep, pertaining to the franco-coarse textural family, presented wood yield average increments greater than 30 m3/ha/year, and also greater loss of commercial volume because of the Platypus mutatus attack , while those located in the low lands (bañado), protected by dike, with alkaline-sodium layers under surface and a slightly alkaline pH at a depth of 28 cm, showed an average increment of 28.5 m3/ha/year.

These neighbourhoods, which the expert described as “polderised closed housing developments” – a reference to polders or low-lying tracts of land enclosed by dikes – “entail major modifications of the natural topographical characteristics, not only to raise the level of the ground in order to build housing but also to create new bodies of water.”

Diked Tanks

These cylindrical aboveground tanks are steel atmospheric tanks intended for aboveground storage of non-corrosive, stable flammable, and combustible liquids that have a specific gravity not exceeding that of water. Diked containments can either be open top or closed top construction. Each tank is sized with the appropriate normal and emergency vent openings as defined in the tank's standard of construction.

The primary containment aboveground storage tank is housed within a rectangular steel dike which contains the product should a spill, tank leak or rupture occur. Tanks are built to Underwriters Laboratories specification standard UL-142.

HOW DO I CALCULATE THE VOLUME OF MY CONTAINMENT DIKE?
SITUATION 1:
One tank in the diked area
*Note that the length, width and height of the dike must be measured on the inside, not the outside of the dike.
1) Measure the length of the dike wall _____________ (in feet) = “a” in the formula
2) Measure the width of the dike wall _____________ (in feet) = “b” in the formula
3) Measure the height of the dike wall _____________ (in feet) = “c” in the formula

Products: Containment Dikes
A Containment Dike can further your investment in your new or existing single-wall tanks by providing you with an economical secondary containment. Containment Dikes can be a solution for SPCC requirements for fuel storage tanks and provide the ease of visual leak detection.

No había leído bien tu pregunta.

Acabo de encontrar 'bund wall/bunding'.

http://www.proz.com/kudoz/english_to_spanish/environment_eco...

Bunding, also called a bund wall, is a constructed retaining wall around storage "where potentially polluting substances are handled, processed or stored, for the purposes of containing any unintended escape of material from that area until such time as remedial action can be taken."

Bunds
Bunds are generally used around storage tanks or drum storage areas where flammable or toxic liquids are held. Alternative measures may be earth dikes (usually for very large tanks), sumps and interceptors. Bunds are also sometimes used within plant buildings for reactors and other process vessels. For materials that are normally gases at ambient conditions, bunds are used where flash fractions are sufficiently low to merit them. Therefore they are often used for refrigerated gases but not for the same gases stored under pressure.

Could be. Thank you, Neil :-)
agree philgoddard : This is too many references to wade through, and some awful translations. But I agree.

Yes, sorry about that. I initially thought it referred to military tanks + complementary works, not necessarily related to tanks. In Spain 'tanks' are usually called 'depósitos'. I got off to a bad start and then suddenly everything clicked.

Peer comment(s):

agree Jennifer Levey : Impermeable wall around a tank containing a dangerous liquid, designed to stop the spread of that liquid if the tank leaks or ruptures. The volume within the wall must be at least equal to the volume of the tank, so it will never spill over the top.
