Spanish term

objeto del acto

Spanish to English Law/Patents Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs Marriage Certificate
Marriage Certificate (Spain)

This phrase appears in bold and is underligned in the source text, which makes me wonder if it's a proper legal term.

If not, then isn't it simply saying "with the purpose of contracting marriage/entering into marriage"?

Only the words "objeto del acto" are in bold and underlined. The preceding and following words are in normal font.

Many thanks in advance for your clarification.

"...[name]....... y [name]......., acompañados de los testigos mayors de edad [name]....... y [name],,,,,,,,, con el objeto del acto, contraer matrimonio."

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Thanks Neil. I spotted the bit about "voting for reclassification" at the bottom of the page just after I'd posted my last comment.

I agree Many English speakers equally struggle with legal formulations of this kind. You cannot do a word-for-word translation here and it is a matter of legal drafting style. That does not fit the ProZ definition of a non-PRO question.
neilmac Aug 23, 2016:
However I think many native Spanish speakers would struggle to explain the concept, which is why I think it should remain PRO.

Hi Neil, I'm a bit confused. I marked this as a PRO query. Has it been suggested that it should be changed to a NON-PRO query?
Ruth Ramsey (asker) Aug 22, 2016:
Hi Christian, thanks for your comment. I just thought it would be easier for translators who translate in the same language pair and in the same direction to help get to the most idiomatic answer in English.
neilmac Aug 22, 2016:
Good point But I don't agree that this is a NON-PRO query.
Just wondering Why do you want responses from native English speakers only? Wouldn't it make more sense to ask those familiar with convoluted Spanish constructions?
