Italian term
ripresa in essere, seppur ancora in chiaroscuro
Italian to English
Bus/Financial
Economics
This is from a report on macroeconomic trends. Here's the full sentence:
Se i recenti dati macroeconomici statunitensi confermano ** una ripresa in essere, seppur ancora in chiaroscuro, ** l’uscita dalla fase recessiva della zona euro nel secondo trimestre dell’anno non è stata il preludio ad una vera crescita economica, in un’area investita inoltre da una pesante crisi del debito pubblico lungi dall’essere risolta.
I just want to make sure, does this mean something along the lines of 'a recovery is underway, albeit with mixed results'?
Many thanks in advance for any help.

confirm that ...... a recovery is underway, although it is still uneven.
I feel that metaphors like, "ups and downs", or "light and shade" sound a bit unnatural in the context, while I think "uneven" conveys the meaning fairly accurately.
"recovery is uneven"

I dislike "underway". It sounds like "underwear".

Thanks Tom. I think it can also be written as one word, though. http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/underway http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/under-way?q=underway |
