Réassureurs Référents

French to English Bus/Financial Insurance Reinsurance treaty

Hi all,

The answer to this may well be straight forward but I can't find any Ghits or other references to it online, so I want to get another opinion. I'm aware that Référent usually refers to an advisor/consultant, but may have a different meaning here. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
David

Discussion

Daryo Feb 14, 2017:
unlikely "Réassureurs référents" is in plural, while I can't see how you could have more than one "leader"!
David Howard (asker) Feb 14, 2017:
More info Hi all,

In this particular contract, the Réassureurs Référents are four specific, large companies. As Neil has suggested, they could be the "Lead/Leading Reinsurers" as opposed to the "follower" reinsurers (mentioned towards the end of the document). Any thoughts?
Neil Crockford Feb 14, 2017:
Usually, a clause of this kind would provide for a discussion between the Cedant and the Leading Reinsurer. Here, it would appear other reinsurers must be consulted, and one would expect them to be defined in the treaty, as Phil says.
Daryo Feb 14, 2017:
are these "Réassureurs référents" the one signing the contract / providing the reinsurance?
philgoddard Feb 13, 2017:
I would expect this to be defined at the beginning of the treaty (especially since they use initial capitals) or apparent from the rest of the context. Is this not the case?
"Réassureur référent" doesn't get any hits, but "assureur référent' does.
"Référent" can mean benchmark.
