Russian term

Вас любят больше, чем вы полагаете

Russian to English Art/Literary Idioms / Maxims / Sayings Horoscope
Hello,
Does anyone know what this phrase means in the context of the below? It is taken from a horoscope/ fortune-telling 'role play'. The literal meaning sounds a bit strange in the context ('They love you more than you know it').

Очень часто одиночество – это счастье, только мы этого не осознаем. Познакомьтесь поближе с собой. Вас любят больше, чем вы полагаете.

Вы, видимо, хотели сказать "не умеете читать между строк"? ;-)
PS спасибо за лекцию по "Эзопову" языку. :-D
Elena Doroshenko Apr 6, 2017:
Видимо, без смайликов вы не умеете читать то, что стоит за словами. Спасибо за ваше бесспорное мнение.
El oso Apr 6, 2017:
Это никакое не "посвящение", а просто иллюстрация :-) Что касается прочих сентенций - все это довольно сумбурно и спорно.
Elena Doroshenko Apr 6, 2017:
El oso Apr 6, 2017:
@Elena Doroshenko & athlonusm Кого ж любить? Кому же верить?
Кто не изменит нам один?
Кто все дела, все речи мерит
Услужливо на наш аршин?
Кто клеветы про нас не сеет?
Кто нас заботливо лелеет?
Кому порок наш не беда?
Кто не наскучит никогда?
Призрака суетный искатель,
Трудов напрасно не губя,
Любите самого себя,
Достопочтенный мой читатель!
Предмет достойный: ничего
Любезней, верно, нет его (c)
Так что ли получается?..)

The only person loves you more than you know - this is you.

I think the literal meaning is not correct in this case. In the text, it's recommended to spend time with yourself for self-knowing, so the solitude is not bad, cause the only person loves you more than you know - this person is you.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I think this is the closest to what would be said in English. In the end I opted to put it slightly more succinctly: 'The person who loves you most is you.' Thank you very much for your help! "

literal meaning

I would stick to the literal meaning, you're loved more than you think you're
As in, you think someone fancies you a bit but his (her) actual feeling is much stronger

agree Steven McGrath : The literal meaning is best, but I would replace "think" with "know." Parents often tell their children, "We love you more than you know."

agree Ilan Rubin (X) : "you are" at the end. "you're" sounds strange here

not as unloved

You are not as unloved as you think you are

agree danya : this would be perfect for a British publication :)

agree Anzhelika Kuznetsova : I'd go for 'you are (being) loved more than you think', as for a more life-affirming one, though) glass half-full, все дела

"they" means "you"

I guess "they" is referring to "you" in that context.

If you don't have people around you, you should get to know yourself more closely. This way, you will learn that there is actually a person who loves you, and that person is yourself. Therefore, you don't have to be unhappy because you are alone and nobody loves you.

You are not alone: you are surrounded by love.

Literal or not, this is good advice, freely given.

You are more lovable/worthy of love than you think

Perhaps this advice is for someone suffering from low self-esteem? In that case, the phrase could be encouraging that person to "get to know themselves better" and understand their own value.
