German term

Lebens- und Wesensäußerung

German to English Social Sciences Religion Description of a Non-profit
The context is "Caritas ist eine Lebens- und Wesensäußerung der katholischen Kirche" (contexto).

This is my last option of making a decent translation out of this document. It is a description of the Caritas organization, in a work contract.

Es mi último recurso para entender que puede ser "Lebens- und Wesensäußerung" , es una descripción de las actividades de una ONG (Caritas), en un contrato de trabajo.

THANKS/GRACIAS!!

Discussion

AllegroTrans May 23, 2017:
Might I suggest.... Since Caritas is an international Catholic organisation, that you simply google "Caritas is" or "Caritas is an expression of". You will then be able to select what the organisation actually uses as its mission statements in English. I am sure you will find something suitable. This indeed is the type of "prior research" which should be done before posting.

Or you could just use the version on the Caritas international website
http://www.caritas.org/: "Caritas Internationalis reflects the social mission and core values of the Catholic Church."

expression of the life and essential character of the Catholic church

It needs to be clear that it is the "life and..." of the Catholic CHURCH, not just "Catholic" life and...
Alternatives to "essential character" include: "being" - the most accurate translation of "Wesens-", but sounds a little odd in English; and "essence". It is not just about values, not even core values, although one could have a theological/philosophical debate about that!
Note from asker:
True, I agree that it is a potential debate topic.
