What I meant is that the meaning here is "passive form" as the "Algerian Novel" was the one which "witnessed the thing" and dit not watch anything at all. The verb شهدث does not at all mean "watch" but rather witnessed something.I hope you get my point. If you look at the second question by the same requester, you will surely get the point.
